PROJECT NEWS & HIGHLIGHTS
Patient Enrollment Completed for TIMELY Randomized Controlled Trial
We are pleased to announce the successful completion of patient enrollment for the TIMELY randomized controlled trial (RCT), a key milestone in our project. The trial, conducted across study centers in Germany, Spain, and the Netherlands, includes 360 patients who will help evaluate the efficacy of our innovative eHealth platform.
This RCT is central to TIMELY, testing our platform's ability to support care from diagnosis to long-term management by focusing on behavioral and psychosocial factors. The enrolled participants will receive care through the TIMELY platform, allowing us to assess its impact on patient engagement, treatment adherence, and overall health.
The trial’s multicenter design ensures that our findings will be relevant across diverse healthcare systems, supporting our goal of widespread implementation. As we progress, the TIMELY team will closely monitor the trial and analyze the data to validate our hypotheses. We extend our deepest gratitude to the patients, clinicians, and researchers who have contributed to this vital phase of the TIMELY project. Your participation is crucial to our mission of improving cardiac care through innovative, patient-centered solutions.
PHD STUDENTS AT TIMELY
PhD Research: Emma Douma’s Journey with TIMELY
In this issue, we turn the spotlight on Emma Douma, a PhD student playing a key role in the TIMELY project. Over the past two years, Emma has conducted a systematic review of behavior change strategies and facilitated patient focus groups. As a case manager, she recruits and supports patients using the TIMELY app.
Emma’s research focuses on motivating patients to adopt healthier behaviors, such as physical activity, healthy eating, and smoking cessation. She emphasizes the importance of keeping patients at the center of eHealth interventions, using their insights to shape the TIMELY app’s design.
Looking ahead, Emma aims to continue developing interventions that support lasting lifestyle changes. Her work is vital to the future of AI-driven healthcare.

PhD student Presented ePoster at ESC 2024
We were thrilled with Alexander Hammer's presentation at ESC 2024, where he unveiled his latest research on artificial intelligence in cardiovascular care. Hammer, a TIMELY PhD student from Dresden University of Technology, presented during the moderated ePoster session titled “Progress and Challenges in Artificial Intelligence for Cardiovascular Risk Assessment and Diagnosis,” which took place on 1 September from 15:00 to 15:50 in London. His presentation, “An explainable AI for trustworthy detection of atrial fibrillation on reduced lead ECGs in mobile applications,” was a highlight for those interested in the future of AI in cardiology.
GRABBING A COFFEE WITH THE ADVISORY BOARD
Our Advisory Board includes expertise in eHealth, psychocardiology, epidemiology and economics. On a regular basis, we are exchanging ideas, discussing project updates diving deeper into various hot topics.
Read here what they think about the recent TIMELY developments:
“Incorporating behavioral science into TIMELY is a significant step toward truly patient-centered care. By addressing the psychosocial factors that influence heart health, this platform not only aids in recovery but also empowers patients to sustain meaningful lifestyle changes. I am excited to be part of a project that places patient motivation at its core.”
CONNECTING AT CONGRESSES
SEMDATEX and BIOTRONIK Showcased TIMELY at ESC 2024
SEMDATEX and BIOTRONIK successfully showcased the TIMELY project at this year’s ESC Congress, held in London. As key contributors to the TIMELY initiative, the two companies had a dedicated booth where attendees learned more about their innovative approach to coronary artery disease management.
At the booth, visitors explored how TIMELY integrates the newest eHealth tools and artificial intelligence to enhance patient care. SEMDATEX and BIOTRONIK’s experts were available to demonstrate the platform’s capabilities, discuss its potential impact on healthcare, and answer questions.
Digital Heart Summit 2024: Shaping the Future of Cardiology
The Digital Heart Summit 2024 held in Berlin brought together over 100 cardiologists, researchers, and innovators to explore the latest advancements in digital cardiology. Key discussions focused on artificial intelligence, telemedicine, and wearable devices aimed at improving heart health and patient care.
Among the prominent speakers, Prof. Dr. Susanne Pedersen, a member of the TIMELY advisory board, and Dr. Boris Schmitz, Principal Investigator within the TIMELY project, presented key insights. Dr. Schmitz discussed the TIMELY project’s progress and contributions, while Prof. Pedersen focused on the theme "Digitalizing Psychological Therapies: How to and What to Be Aware Of?"
Throughout the summit, experts addressed practical challenges in implementing eHealth solutions and shared successful outcomes from telecardiology initiatives across Europe. Emphasis was placed on fostering innovation and collaboration to integrate digital health solutions into everyday cardiology practices effectively. Discussions underscored that digital health is no longer a future goal—it is a present-day reality actively shaping the field of cardiology.
