TIMELY at ESC Congress 2024: Driving Healthcare Innovation with AI and eHealth Solutions
The European Society of Cardiology (ESC) Congress 2024 brought together some of the most cutting-edge innovations in cardiology, digital health, and artificial intelligence (AI) – and TIMELY was at the heart of it all. Held in London, this year’s event was buzzing with energy as researchers, healthcare professionals, and industry leaders gathered to discuss the future of cardiovascular care.
TIMELY’s Role at ESC Congress 2024
A highlight for the TIMELY team came with Alexander Hammer, a PhD student from Technische Universität Dresden, presenting his team’s exciting new research. Hammer’s presentation, titled “An explainable AI for trustworthy detection of atrial fibrillation on reduced-lead ECGs in mobile applications,” introduced the xECGArch AI architecture. This dual-model system combines rhythm and morphology feature learning to provide accurate and explainable atrial fibrillation (AF) detection on mobile ECG devices. The research demonstrates promising results for advancing cardiovascular diagnosis in mobile health contexts, with classification accuracies between 90 and 95% across various ECG leads. This combination of high accuracy and model transparency suggests that the AI solution could become a valuable tool for more trustworthy atrial fibrillation detection in mobile applications, though further validation in real-world settings is necessary.
BIOTRONIK and SEMDATEX in the Digital Health Area
Meanwhile, BIOTRONIK and SEMDATEX, both key players in the TIMELY project, had a prominent presence in the Digital Health Area. They showcased several technologies, including the inCareNet telemonitoring platform and their involvement with TIMELY. Visitors to their booth had the chance to witness these technologies in action, sparking important conversations about the role of digital health in shaping the future of cardiovascular care.
Collaboration and Networking at ESC 2024
For many members of the TIMELY consortium, ESC Congress 2024 was not only an opportunity to present cutting-edge research but also to foster collaboration. Representatives from TIMELY, BIOTRONIK, SEMDATEX, and other industry leaders came together to exchange ideas and network with top researchers in cardiology.
After an eventful day of presentations, members of the TIMELY consortium gathered for dinner, where they continued their discussions and reflected on the project’s role in the evolving landscape of digital health and cardiovascular care. Conversations were filled with excitement about the future possibilities for TIMELY, particularly in light of the growing interest in AI-driven healthcare solutions.
Looking Ahead
As eHealth solutions continue to gain momentum in healthcare, the emphasis on patient-centered, early-risk prediction will be essential for improving the continuum of care for coronary artery disease.
The congress showcased how collaborative efforts can yield transformative outcomes in healthcare. TIMELY aims to contribute to these advancements, with the potential to improve diagnostic accuracy, enhance monitoring, and enable timely interventions through the application of AI and digital innovation.
